Glenelg Beach
The Tram Ride That Ends at the Sand
Glenelg Beach is Adelaide's best-known stretch of coastline, and getting there is part of the charm: the heritage tram trundles out from Victoria Square, a short walk from Hume, and delivers you almost directly onto the sand. At the other end you'll find the jetty, Moseley Square, and Jetty Road's run of cafés, restaurants and shops.
It's an easy half-day trip or a full afternoon if the weather's playing along, and the tram means there's no parking to think about either way. Whether you're after a swim, a sunset walk along the jetty, or just a change of scenery from the CBD, Glenelg is the classic Adelaide day-tripper's answer.
