Pandas, Parklands, and a Walk Through Botanic Park

Tucked between the Botanic Gardens and the River Torrens, Adelaide Zoo has been a fixture of the city since 1883, making it Australia's second-oldest zoo. It's home to Australia's only giant pandas, along with Sumatran tiger cubs, meerkats, giraffes, and a Children's Zoo that tends to be the highlight for younger visitors.

The walk over from Hume takes you straight through Botanic Park, so it's as much a pleasant stroll as it is a way of getting somewhere. At just eight hectares, the zoo itself is compact enough to see properly without an exhausting full day of walking, making it a good fit for a half-day outing rather than something you need to block out an entire day for.

Adelaide Zoo is about [X] km from Hume, around a [X] minute walk through the Botanic Gardens and Botanic Park, or a [X] minute drive.

Yes. The route runs through parkland on flat, sealed paths the whole way, so it works with a pram. Allow a little longer than 31 minutes with small children.

The 2-Bedroom Standard sleeps four with separate bedrooms, which makes early bedtimes easier. Cots are available for $25 per night, subject to availability — request one when booking.

Most families spend two to three hours. Combined with the walk through the Botanic Gardens, it makes a comfortable half day out from Hume.

Booking ahead is advisable during school holidays and on weekends. Check current ticket options and prices on the zoo's website before you go.
